here's my condensed career story..
my metamorphosis into super geekery began years back in college when i launched an e-business selling my one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewelry designs via an online jewelry boutique that i designed and coded from scratch. since organic search and ppc were the primary marketing channels for my online business, i had to learn new skills and get good at internet marketing to drive traffic and acquire customers.
during that initial growth period i spent an inordinate amount of time designing, coding, and marketing the website. at some point i had an aha moment and realized i'd rather do web design and internet marketing than continue designing and handcrafting jewelry. so i started seeking opportunities to utilize my new-found know-how after graduating with my bsba from east carolina university's college of business.
directly after graduating ecu i landed a job as the web manager for pirate's cove vacations & realty in the outer banks of north carolina. there i increased online reservation booking revenue over 800% to several hundred thousand dollars in less than a year through a combination of seo and redesigning the website for better conversions. pirates cove was running near full capacity. it was time for something bigger..
fast forward to the big leagues
i moved across the country from the beach in north carolina to the desert in arizona to join icrossing, which was one of fastest growing digital marketing agencies in united states at the time. during my tenure there i served as an seo specialist on a multitude of the agency's top natural search accounts such as coca-cola, williams-sonoma, royal caribbean, farmers insurance, businessweek, novo nordisk, american century investments and many more. i left ic after a couple of years to join jobing.com, the largest local job network in the united states as the director of search marketing. during my time there, we increased natural search traffic 85% driving many million more visits across jobing's network of job search websites in less than a year.
lured by the freedom of life beyond the cramped confinements of the cubicle, i went solo and did freelance consulting for awhile. i worked primarily with imed consulting, optimizing many automotive dealership websites and social media channels. freelancing offered a welcome change, but bigger opportunities soon came calling..
onward to omaha
onward to omaha, nebraska to serve as a senior seo specialist at hayneedle, inc. one of the largest online retailers in the united states. while there i was responsible for the optimization of 180+ niche retail sites in the home furnishings division. again, i soon found myself yearning for life outside of the office.
into the great wide open
fast forward to today.. i work a remote position as the sole seo & sem specialist for genealogybank.com in the consumer division of newsbank, inc. organic traffic has seen exponential growth since i came on board a couple years ago. i am currently working on dramatically increasing our online customer aquisition via paid channels. i am also into affiliate marketing and domain investing..
